Bangalore Fort began in 1537 as a mud fort. The builder was Kempe Gowda I, a vassal of the Vijaynagar Empire and the founder of Bangalore. Apart from Mysuru and the famous, finest Royal Palace there, the City of Bengaluru had also seen Hyder Ali and his powerful son Tipu Sultan in the Bangalore Fort & Tipu’s Summer Palace.
Bangalore Fort is now a historical ruin under the aegis of the ASI. It is free for tourists. A simple prison type fort without much decoration housed hundreds of accused persons, some of whom were life prisoners or extremely notorious gangsters. They were kept in cells at Bengaluru Fort.
